Daytrip to Ko Phi Phi
The Phi Phi Islands are a group of islands in the Andaman Sea. They’re most famous for the movie called “The Beach” starring Leonardo DiCaprio that was filmed there. The Islands are an archipelago in Thailand located just an hour speedboat ride from Phuket. They are known for their tall limestone cliffs rising out of the water. The popular Maya Bay which was closed for 3 years due to a rehabilitation project is now back open. You can also visit the town of Phi Phi and explore the shops and hike up to the Phi Phi View Point for a great view of the island. You can also see Monkeys on Monkey Island or see Bamboo Island which is another popular island to go to nearby.
See Phang Nga Bay and James Bond Island
Phang Nga Bay which was featured in the James Bond film “The Man with the Golden Gun” is another place that you have to see. It is a short speed boat ride away from Phuket. You can also see the floating city of Koh Panyee. There are several caves and more there where you can go kayaking.
The Big Buddha
The Big Buddha Phuket located about 30 minutes from Patong is a white marble statue of Buddha that sits on top of a hill overlooking the island. The statue is 45 meters tall and is one of the most visited temples in Phuket. The Big Buddha was built in 2007 and is visible from many parts of the island. The statue is surrounded by a small park and there are stairs leading up to it. Visitors can ring a bell at the base of the statue and make offerings to Buddha. The Big Buddha is definitely worth the short drive to get there.
Relax on Freedom Beach
Away from many of the more crowded beaches in Phuket is Freedom beach. It can be a long hike with steep hills that can be tiring in the hot sun so it is much easier to take a 15-minute boat ride to the beach. It’s a great place to spend the day relaxing on the beach and swimming.
Explore Old Phuket Town
Phuket Old Town is a historic district in the southern part of Phuket Island, Thailand. Old Town is Known for its Sino-Portuguese architecture, a blend of Chinese and European influences that is unique to Phuket. The streets are filled with two-story shops, with many cafes, bars, and restaurants with great Thai Food. You can also find several temples and museums in Old Town.
